DIRECTORS’
STATEMENT
A year ago we embedded with an armed civilian group along the US-Mexico border, seeking to understand the operations and motivations of those who spend unpaid, unsanctioned weeks of their lives patrolling the barren land.
What we found was one story that hit close to home and inspired The Border Between.
An experiment in the blurred lines between what’s real and the stories we tell ourselves, the film is intended to express the painful impact of drug addiction & the desperation it invokes for its bystanders, while inspiring conversation about what it means to take control of this crisis.
DIRECTORS’ BIOGRAPHY
Nate and Chris have been friends since middle school. They grew up in a rural, semi-lawless town in Southern California, known for avocado groves and neighboring tribal casinos.
Twenty years of friendship has given them an incredible shorthand for crafting creative projects together. Chris, from an editing and producing background, and Nate, from a writing and shooting background, have come together to create experimental short films that blend documentary and fiction.
Nate and Chris are developing their first feature based on The Border Between.
